Training Methods and how to apply them

Our trainers are experienced in both positive reinforcement and balanced training methods.
Positive reinforcement focuses on rewarding the behaviors we want to see more of, building confidence and motivation in a fun and encouraging way. Balanced training also uses rewards as the foundation but, when needed, incorporates fair boundaries and clear communication tools to help guide dogs effectively. This combination allows us to adapt our approach to each dog’s unique temperament and learning style, always prioritizing safety, respect, and long-term success. We also respect each dog’s needs and each owner’s wishes, while being guided by our trainers’ expertise when it comes to implementing any type of tool.

Jen’s story

Jen’s journey into dog training began when she realized her desire to do something she was passionate about rather than simply punching a time clock. Her lifelong love of animals and her natural ability to connect with dogs made dog training the perfect fit. Jen noticed a common disconnect between dogs and their owners, even among attentive pet parents. This inspired her to seek training that aligned with her values, eventually pursuing her education and volunteering at a local shelter.
Jen completed the C.A.T.C.H. Masters Program and began volunteering at her local shelter, where she quickly advanced to become Head Dog Trainer. In this role, she trained volunteers to provide consistent support for the dogs and their future families. Jen’s focus was on teaching basic manners, working with prospective adopters, and facilitating a smooth transition from shelter to home life. She conducted group classes and one-onone training sessions on socialization, anxiety management, and addressing chronic behavioral issues, as well as foundational skills like loose-leash walking, crate training,
potty training, and recall. Her e^orts helped re-home hundreds of dogs by equipping them with the social and behavioral skills needed for a successful adoption.
Jen is most passionate about working with dogs who have not yet been fully understood or supported. She specializes in helping owners establish e^ective communication and build mutual respect with their dogs. Her work emphasizes creating partnerships between dogs and their humans, teaching both to overcome obstacles together. Jen enjoys guiding families toward the loving relationships they’ve always wanted with their pets.
