Training Methods and how to apply them

Our trainers are experienced in both positive reinforcement and balanced training methods.
Positive reinforcement focuses on rewarding the behaviors we want to see more of, building confidence and motivation in a fun and encouraging way. Balanced training also uses rewards as the foundation but, when needed, incorporates fair boundaries and clear communication tools to help guide dogs effectively. This combination allows us to adapt our approach to each dog’s unique temperament and learning style, always prioritizing safety, respect, and long-term success. We also respect each dog’s needs and each owner’s wishes, while being guided by our trainers’ expertise when it comes to implementing any type of tool.

Laura's story

Laura’s lifelong connection with animals began in childhood, when her parents would joke that “if we put her in a cage with a tiger, she’d make friends” From rescuing baby bunnies to rehabilitating injured birds, her compassion for animals has always been a driving force in her life.

After earning her degree with honors in Equine Studies from Johnson & Wales University, Laura spent several years training horses, teaching at children’s riding camps, and managing a prestigious equestrian facility in Rhode Island. Her passion for animal behavior eventually led her to become a certified dog trainer through the Animal Behavior College, where she began working closely with shelter dogs and their new families.

Now based in Illinois, Laura runs her own home-based board and train program, Live-In Learning, where she helps dogs of all kinds become calm, confident, and well-mannered companions. She especially enjoys trick training, parkour agility, and developing service dog behaviors - always striving to create happy, balanced family dogs.
